Agape Baptist Church
About Us

About Us

For those who are New

Visiting a new church can be uncomfortable. We want to ease that feeling as much as possible! We are meeting on Sunday mornings at 09:00 am at The Arts Theatre, 125 York St. George(Click here for directions)We will have a sign in the parking area directing you to the right location.

Sunday schedule: Our morning worship service begins at 9:00 a.m., with music and a message from the Bible. That’s followed by tea/coffee fellowship time.  You are also invited to join us for informal follow-up Bible Study at 10:30 a.m. after the tea.

For your littlest ones: During the preaching time, we provide a crèche and a Bible class for the young children.

What to wear: Most people dress smart casual but please don’t agonize over this decision. You’re welcome as you are. We are more concerned about “heart” issues that the externals.

Our worship services: Music is a key element of worship at Agape. Our music is conservative and traditional. We use a combination of old hymns and new pieces. We strive for a song service that is approachable, excellent, and faithful to Scripture.
We take an offering at every service. Do not feel obligated to give! This is the way our church family demonstrates our love toward God, our great giver, and supports His work both in the church and worldwide.

Finally, and most importantly, you will hear a message from God’s word. Sometimes our pastor will speak on a specific topic but usually you’ll find us working our way through a book of the Bible, one passage at a time, uncovering the lessons God has for us.

Language: Our services are conducted in English and Afrikaans.

To love the Lord with our whole being and others as ourselves”

Matthew 22:37–39,
“Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ “This is the first and great commandment. “And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ “

Our Values Flow out of this Statement Below

1. In loving the Lord with our whole Being

  • We Value His Word
We want to know Him and His will through learning His Word.  We preach it,
teach it and sing it – it is His Word to us.

  • We Value Worship
We want to serve, obey and honour Him with our lives. (This is the true
     meaning of worship)

  • We Value Holiness
God has called us to be His special people (in the world but not like the world)

2. In Loving Others as Ourselves

  • We Value Genuine Humility and Compassion
In other words putting others first, starting in our homes and extending into
     our church and beyond.

  • We value spiritual growth and discipleship
We what to help, encourage and admonish one another in our Christian walk
     with the Lord.

  • We value evangelism of the lost
A desire to reach out to others with the good news of Jesus Christ which
     we ourselves have received.

  • We value fellowship
Especially in the context of our local church.

History of Agape Baptist Church

Agape Baptist Church is a new church in formation.  In 2009, church planters, Bryant and Sharan Crane moved from Cape Town to establish an independent Baptist church in George.  They were joined by Julie McFadden and Rod and Tina Poplin to form a team of church planters with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism. South African pastor, Koop Piek and his family, later joined us and became part of our church planting effort. Agape Baptist Church was organized in 2010 with a commitment to the authority of God’s Word over all areas of life. We endeavor to reflect this commitment by our weekly expository preaching, Bible studies and worship in music.

The Agape Baptist Church plant is part of a larger church planting effort in the Garden Route. (Click here for more information…)

Agape’s Ministries

These are some of the ministries of Agape Baptist Church. They provide regularly scheduled opportunities for fellowship, training and service.

Bible Studies – Speaking the TRUTH in Love

At Agape we host various home Bible study fellowships in both English and Afrikaans. We seek to provide interactive opportunities for people to grow in their understanding of God and His Word. Discipleship and fellowship are extremely Important for all believers in Jesus and we therefore seek to adhere to the Great Commission to Make Disciples, to Baptize, and to Teach (Matt. 29:19-20)

For our current schedule, please contact one of the pastors.

Children’s Ministries

Every Sunday morning, during the preaching portion of the meeting, the children of Agape gather for their own songs and instruction.

The purpose of our Children’s Ministry is to supplement the biblical teaching and training that parents are already giving their children and we strive to do that in a way that the children find fun and enjoyable.

We want our children to grow up with a positive church experience while they learn the Gospel and the foundational doctrines of the Christian faith.

Agape Youth Ministry

The Youth Ministry of Agape Baptist Church is for teens, ages 13-19 (or in high school).

The intent of our programs is to see the Word of God applied in the lives of teenagers and to cultivate spiritual fruit that results in teens that love God and live in obedience to His Word.

The teenage years are filled with unique opportunities for parents and the church to inspire and equip the next generation for its role in God’s plan. These years need not be synonymous with the rebellion or unsupervised independence that is characteristic of our culture.

Our ministry is designed to work together with parents as they seek to cultivate their teen’s spiritual maturity. What a joy to see teens and parents growing together in their commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ!

Biblical Leadership Institute exists to prepare men and women for ministry within and alongside the local church. We are a team of South African and international instructors who desire to see local church ministry strengthened along the Garden Route. Through strategic partnerships with ACRP (Association of Christian Religious Practitioners) as well as existing, accredited theological schools in South Africa, we offer qualifications designed to instill biblical leadership principles in the lives of our students.

Visitors are always welcome to our institute. If there’s anything you’d like to know about our programs and curriculum, please get in touch.

Bryant and Sharan Crane

Bryant serves as the Senior Pastor of Agape Baptist Church. Bryant and Sharan served as church planters in Cape Town for seventeen years.  Their three boys, Joshua, Daniel and Zachary, grew up in South Africa and have been an important part of their ministry.  In 2008 they began assisting with church planting efforts along the Garden Route and in January of 2009 they moved to George to establish the Agape Baptist Church.  They are committed to the work of establishing churches and national leadership training and development “…for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”  Eph. 4:12-13
